9 birds shot last night and frozen now weight:
♀, 578 gm, moderate-heavy molt, head, neck; light molt (pin feathers) upper tail coverts & ventral tracts.
♂, 511 gm, heavy molt head and neck; light molt upper tail coverts, ant. ventral tracts, scapular tracts.
♀, 494 gm; molt as above.
♂, 660 gm; heavy molt head and neck, light molt scapular tract.
♂, 626 gm; heavy molt head and neck, light molt scapular tract.
♂, 615 gm. heavy molt head and neck, light molt, probably accidental left upper 3° coverts.
♂, 660 gm, heavy molt, head and neck only.
♂, 640 gm, heavy molt head and neck, mod. molt scapular tract and upper tail coverts.
♂, 614 gm., heavy molt (almost complete) head and neck; light molt scapular tract.
When I went to get these birds, there was a live male with deer, which flew off. A group of 58±2 on the far side of the Meade River, feeding in semi-open areas. As in all the other forks here, the sex ratio is nearly or exactly 1:1.
26 May a ♂ and 2 ♀s around the camp were the only ones noted today.
27 May. Group seen today included 4♂2♀ near camp in the am plus two group of about 9 and 15, with 2-3 more males than ♀s in each group
