Loon, sp.
26 June Barrow, Alaska
3 heard, one of which was seen, from Pitelko's
Census plot. The bird seen seemed to be uniformly
dark above but couldn't be sure, and couldn't
see the bill well at all.
27 June Two were seen flying silently and one was
heard in the morning near the lab and 243 were
heard in the afternoon. See Arctic Loon.
28 June One heard in Central Marsh was making a goose-
like noise in addition to the usual cackle

29 June 2 Heard, one seen, prob. Red Thrs.
30 June 1 heard flying over Central Marsh.
2 July one (each) heard over West Slough and Central Marsh.
5 July 2 heard over Central Marsh.
6 July 2 heard over Micronet Marsh in the AM
13 July noted in fair number towards the lead, mostly beyond
the ice. They were mostly the smaller species judging
from their flight.
15 July one, prob. Yellow Billed seen Central Marsh.
20 July Several loons seen off shore in the evening mostly in
a large patch of chow water. The majority seemed to be
Red-thr. but one appeared large enough to be a Yellow-billed.
21 July all seen today were [illegible] Loon. Red-thr.,
was clearly seen and I appeared to be a Yellow-billed.
22 July seen over the Cherskii Sea in the evening
24 July those seen were mostly small ones out (prob. Yellow-billed)
25 July all seen appeared to be either Arctic or Red-throated,
