Pluvialis dominica 26 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°39.N, alarm display like I had a nut but I couldn't find anything - it attracted all the other shorebirds in the area, though. 27 June The only one seen on the far side of the meadow was in the upland, polygonal area. The bird gave a distraction display when I approached, then flew off. couldn't find a nest. 28 June A incubating nest on carrion plot. The terns try to sneak off, in a crowd, and there conal birds any give a distraction display when I approach. The display involves dropping the wings and tail, fluffing the back, and running off. The wings are more open than the calidris and its nose cell is absent. 29 June Very scattered and only cone birds seen, one near the 1st lake on voltage creek and one near the last big lake visited. No much good lichen patches for them to rest on. 30 June The 7 incubating in the A.M. Two others seen in the area. No near the Coal Black Willet, though they nest in the same habitat - enough to go around.
