P. de Benedict's
1965
Calidris pugnax
28 June Barrow, Alaska - Heard the "low-flight display"
on several occasions near Miccnet Marsh in the
afternoon and found at least one bird, which appeared
to have dull red legs. In the high polygonal area
between the Beach & Gasline Ridge heard a little
display and saw a chase involving 3 three birds (no
display).
29 June Barrow, Alaska - Two seen near the head of
Gasline Ridge, no display.
30 June 4 seen near Miccnet Marsh (including 3
together giving a little low display flight and a
(one bird), one seen chasing a 4 pectoral.
4 July a lone bird, its bill tucked under its wing, was seen
in the VOTH area. 3(?) were seen together, V-
gliding and at least one giving the "porint see"
song on the level area between VOTH & Gasline Ridge, and a 4 was flushed from polygon
in south of S. Meadows lake and flew over to a 7
which displayed to her. She may be nesting as she
seemed quite disturbed by my presence.
11 July One seen along a small pool between Footprint and Thorough
and according to McClees was giving the ground
display to a Red Phalarope (which happened to look
quite like a White Plovers in pattern). This bird was
noticeably "baggy breasted", like a 7 pectoral, the 12
this has seemed evident to me.
13 July One seen flying west over the VOTH area toward Brownville.
14 July One with a group of Dunlin near Gasline Ridge.
