Calidris melanotos -3 3June Meacle River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaska a three male chase that went over it. postures are: [illegible] 3. Two or 3 males were near the cresses plot, but little activity was noted - several asleep on the tundra and only one song - from a bird flushed - was heard. 4June 3 at 4 males near the village, more or less spaced out and some hooting going on. Saw one for the ground. Didn't seem much feeding, but I have less in question they like grassy areas than tundra. Many males just resting or looking out from polygon ridges. 5June They seem to be coming through this AM. 8s are scattered and scarce, but some display after 8:30 AM, and a few chases. Most were sitting quietly on polygon ridges and high spots on the ridges until about 9:30 when feeding seen. A group of 4 saw near the intersection of South right and Meacle River, and a 9 near there. Several small lots jinks near camp, flying by and some small group, chasing, near the village. Not much feeding seen. 6June. Several 8s about including 2-3 near camp. One has a territory in the area between camp and the AF Warmingas, and 8s go through them at their own
