Somateria mollissima
13 June
Burgeon, Alastaga, - a flock of about 75 birds
was seen flying west over the Coel area
about 3 P.M. The flock was of about 3/4s & 3s.
12 July
A group of about 150 was believed to be this species,
but could have been Spectacled.
13 July
A group of 250-250 birds seen flying west over
the Fresh lake area in the morning.
15 July
a flock of 148s seen at close range over Holmes' House.
They looked like Snow geese at a distance, from their
white foreparts and the very goose-like flight.
16 July
A group of about 75-100 (and 3-4 lone) 8's seen along
Elson hagoon flying west.
21 July
Several small groups and one large flock along Elson
hagoon. 3 King flocks contained Single & Common (2)
and 28s of this species. The larger groups were all 8's.
24 July
Those seen today flying east along the Chukchi Sea.
29 July
Many seen in small lines as part of King Eider
Flocks and several obviously well into Eclipse plumage
seem.
