Culicidus alpina -4 5 June Pleade River Coal Mine, 157°025'W, 70°29'N, Alaska. The pairs are closely associated and the tail-up, 2- wing-up ground display occasionally seen, though old, impaired birds are present. Saw some birds plucking bloodpatches. There are about 3? in the camp area and there seem to be most numerous near the village. Few long bouts of song, possibly because they come in so slowly that local birds are well established territorially before new ones arrive. Seldom see them with pectorals, as they are now in more exposed and after degree areas. Not sure, however, just how three two pairs will divide the area up. 6 June Little change near camp. One long chase + fight with 3 birds involved, much wing-up display. Birds active about camp feeding in saturated moist areas and in the disturbed areas near the village. Seldom see them around Carr's pools as are the Semipalm. No evidence of migrants. Birds quiet due to weather. 7 June Dunlin were seen along the village creek and the village flats, and along the shore of Itwakale lake, with much chasing in the latter area. No long song bouts. Birds not in the Carr's marshes to any great extent but in over nearby areas with more a few pairs. 8 June 1-2 pairs near the census plot. Occ. feeding in high polygonal areas and on the tops of pond margin. Flushed a bird N of the census plot that almost
