Calidius fuscitollis
19 June Barrow, Alaska - Three times and flew on.
now apparently out of audible range; it was seen to
glide once more + then the two flew a little faster
and landed. Saw one brief interactive between
this species and C. pusillus, but not sure who was
after who.
A female prepared in the evening had fat along
all the feather tracts and considerable fat along the
neck and axillary region. The skull was unossified
and the skull windows measured 10x11 mm. The base
of the lower mandible wool light colored, and it showed
no signs of wear.
20 June Only two silent birds in this above area,
all feeding in north west areas.
21 June No sign of the species in the area above.
23 June a pair found behind the micronic area in a
low polygonized area. They fed in rather wet areas.
Heard a flight call (but didn't see the
birds until they were quiet), which sounded
like "wo woitup woitup woitup" high pitched and
buzzy and given rapidly. Later a single bird
in flight went into a wing out glide, tail
slightly spread and raised
then it flew on with a hopping
flight and landed near a 2nd bird
and went immediately into a partial nest cup
display, its breast down to the ground, its wings out
