P. DeBenedicts 1965 Calidris mauri 4 July Barrow, Alaska - all birds seen were along the upper part of V07H creek. I counted 21 in right at one turn in V07H slough; about 10 more were seen as I went up the creek and another 10 were elsewhere in the slough. A group of about 30 were in Footprint lake. They were silent or gave only the "tweet" note except for birds in one snail flock (not seen until by year silent) from which something like the song was heard. No display, the birds preferring to forage forbs as is typical of miququits and they were somewhat restless. at one turn 8 were seen with 2 pectorals going high into the air, circling and ending again over V07H slough. None seen elsewhere. 5 July Saw only two in V07H slough and about 5 along the W side of Central Marsh. Other than the "tweet" note they were silent. They generally associate with semipals, and do somewhat more pecking than I had noticed earlier. 6 July at least 5 birds along the W side of Central Marsh, quite silent. 7 July I saw in Micronut Marsh in the morning 9 July 2 in V07H slough and 3 in Footprint lake. 10 July 2 near the Meadows lakes area. 11 July 2 feeding in wet areas at the S end Footprint lake. 12 July one seen along the N end of Footprint Lake gave a trail similar in form to the trail given by alarmed semipal. Sandpipers, but the call was much higher pitched. It did not look to be off a rest. 25 July I saw along the west border of lake Ikroavik.
