P. DeBenedicts 1965 Artemaria inter pres 29 June Barrow, Alaska - a flock of 5 was seen flying over the Britton's Area and 2 near Micronet Marsh. Didn't check the nest pond yesterday. 30 June A group of 3 seen in Central Marsh flipping our cuttings on sphagnum on a weed track. Very scarce otherwise. 2 July All birds seen in group; a pair diving at jaegers in the S part of Central Marsh. 4 July The pair whose nest I'd found was busily cleaning jaegers this morning and again in the evening. The I did most of the cleaning, flying and occasionally butting any jaeger which might pass over its territory. The jaegers sometimes objected by swerving out of the way but sometimes, particularly when they were in a chase, they seemed to ignore the turnstone. 6 July at least two pairs along Elson lagoon but no nests seen, and one pair in Central Marsh. 8 July The nest I had found was empty on the late A.M. and none were seen in the area. 10 July A flock of 6 seen flying noisily along the edge of Elson lagoon going north. A pair along the lagoon aggressively attacked any jaegers that came near but didn't sit on a nest. 11 July A small group headed along the lead in the evening. 15 July One heard near the CRATH shack. 16 July a pair along Elson lagoon 17 July la 2 heard in flight west of NORTH slough.
