Phalacrocorax pelagicus [illegible] 31 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°22'W, 70°29'N, Alaska a 7 seen flying W over the village, calling loudly, about 8 P.M. 2 June 4-5 seen flying over the village in the A.M. 24's flying over about 11 P.M. 4 June At least 3 about, and saw one with white belly, but none seen on the ground. Two were definitely [illegible] 5 June Several light bellied birds seen flying, but these are probably pale 9s. Not sure any males are here. Someone in a car was marsh behind the lot about noon. They are few from numerous but one of the common species seen flying about now. 6 June Little change from yesterday but not as many birds seen. Possibly one or two seen today but hard to be sure as they are mainly on the ground. 7 June Birds beginning to show up in the pools behind the lab mine. Most are 9s. Saw one tipping like a dabbling duck. A few in flight on the run. 8 June Flushed one or two from pools near the corner plot, and later saw several on pools in the village [illegible]. Possibly one or two. All birds seem were well out in the pools where will vegetation is present, easily to describe, and pectorals which stay in the [illegible] 9 June Much commoner today than earlier and seen on many pools in the village feet areas, where they feed by picking at the surface and 3-47s by occasionally dipping like a duck to the bottom seen.
