P. DeBenedictis 1965 Clangula hyemalis Oldsquaw 20 June Barrow, Alaska, (bond) low cost - like poster: [sketch of bird] as I have seen also in Harlequin Ducks. The chase continued until the Eiders moved to an unoccupied part of the pool. At one time when both pairs were together, both BB's chased one female; they later resettled near or less perceptibly. 21 June Up to 5 pairs in the pond where we saw them yesterday, and 3 pairs (possibly) one duplication with (as above) in open water at the S end Mt. Salathogon and 2 flying over. There was some charring in flocks and a Will's Head warning; at least 4 of the BB's were in transition from winter to summer plumage, one more in winter than summer plumage. 22 June 4 were seen in the usual puddle and a pair were flying E over the barrel area. 23 June a pair were seen in a small melt pool in the marshes at the Nicomett East didn't stay around. 24 June Fork of 29 seen flying E over the Nicomett area about 10:30 PM. A pair was seen on a puddle near Wohlsebloy and [illegible] of about 20 were seen flying E in this same area in the afternoon. 25 June Only 2 pairs seen in the pool near Mt. Salathogon were found; both BB's in transition plumage. 26 June a fork of about 18+3 seen flying W over a part of Central Marsh in the evening with a B Eider.
