Pluirdi dominica
1 July Needle River Coal Mine, 15°02'5"E, 70°29'N, Alaska
One on the dunes near lake Ikwakaw.
4 July One near the '1 post of the census plot much
out of place, but otherwise no evidence of transient
but strong distraction display from the pair
south of the census plot about 100 m. from the
plot, in some rather heavily lichen-grown dunes
between nearly dry Eriophorum pools. There was a
little Eriophorum here on the dunes, but the general
appearance was that of the Cornicularia-Cetaria flat.
Couldn't find a nest. The 3rd still on the nest, as
3 July. Didn't see them anywhere else, except
on Snell ridge - ? some on the 3rd by the census
plot.
5 July Not seen on the plots opposite S Flat. Possibly
the major habitat is the large quiescent area,
of Carex pools and Eriophorum-Cetaria-Cornicularia,
with Blackberries occupying the ridge.
6 July The 3rd incubating the nest on the census plot,
eggs not pipped. The 3rd from the 3rd to the south
on the plot briefly, giving alarm calls.
7 July One giving alarm calls from the Eriophorum
flat near the dunes opposite South Creek.
8 July One egg of the pair on the census plot has a small
dole, the others are cracked. Only one bird in
the area, which now gives a poor distraction
display.
9 July The nest still in the process of hatching about 10 d.p.
