Calidris pusillus -5
10 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°02.5'W, 70°02.9'N, Alaska
Actively displaying in the village. Most wing up-taity
and some aggressive song. Saw an attempted
copulation poorly in the afternoon. Sec. bird
singing near the census plot. Feeding mostly
along the edge of Lany pools away from the village
and one of the common calidris here, if no the
countrout.
11 June 1-2 pairs along the lake basin S of South ridge,
the B's singing actively. They chose 10 to 50
meters up and sing for 2-3 minutes at a time,
covering an irregular circuit, over a large area.
Birds widely spread but conspicuous. No actualizing
seen.
12 June A few, 1 or 2 pairs along lake Agassiz and one near
the lake on Village creek. One seen chasing a
Western Sandpiper. Such chases not uncommon,
? because of the similar size and color, they are
more specific confusion them with other species. More
really like like they are meeting. 4 B's get into the
census plot. Saw one long fight between stake
2.5 and 3.5. The B's circled near each other, one
facing the other, then one jumped on the other,
fluttering its wings slowly. One bird game away. After
3-4 minutes of this (6± encounters), they quit. Very quiet
and little motion between
fight bouts. Lots of song
in the area all evening.
