P. DeBenedictis 1965 Calidris pusilla 13 June Barrow, Alaska - there were at least 6 birds in the panel area today, including a few birds giving the flight song, but little ground display was seen. Saw 3 birds together giving the flight song. Only three side Family polygon around the same, fewer individuals evident than yesterday and only a little flight display. Animal appears to perch more than anything else and tend to feed in bare, highly disturbed areas. 14 June Only a few birds seen in the raised areas along Elson hogon. 1 or 2 flight songs seen. 15 June no change from yesterday; few birds in the panel area. 16 June one seen flying by the AAAC3 area in the A.H., and two rather silent birds by Elson hogon in the afternoon 17 June almost no display today, but some cool-sounding vocalizations heard as birds flew around. Very scarce now compared to June 12-13. 18 June Considerable display late in the day near the outer part of the panel area. The display differs from the other Calidris (esp. Bairdi) in that the bird goes rather quickly into the "tuck tuck tuck" motor boat displays without any other finalized vocalization; they generally glide with the wings in a V and the other call notes are not as grating as the other "peep". Still seen several 0's together.
