P. DeBenedictis 1965 Gavia [illegible] 10 July Barrow, Alaska - as we approached the nest (but the pair remained close to the nest until we left the area. None were vocal. 13 July One seen flying N over Central Muck. 14 July a lone bird was seen in one of the pools in Central Muck 16 July one flying south along Elson Lagoon. 25 July Birds both on the waters and in flight in the lake area from Eksrauit south. Several pairs seen. All on the waters were in large pools that provide a long nursery for the birds to become airborne. One pair at the sabine's colony examined. Not much indication of vocalization. 29 July One seen out in the wet frond marshy area of Lay's Lake in the NNE part of Central Muck, as if on a nest. Two along Elson Lagoon and two, apparently with a nest on a small island of sphaenum in a large pond, between [illegible] Slough and Lines VII-VIII. This pair in flight made noise rather like that described for Red-throated Loons.
