Phalacrocorax fulicarius 16 June Weelee River Coal Mine, 15°00'5"W, 70°02'9"N, Alach allowing close approach. Another g seen to be there but they are not conspicuous. 17 June Phalacrocorax party #2 on along the W side lake Agassiz but they scarcely seem to be having a heard fishing during any time to eat. Saw the first real evidence of "tertiary" - 9s defending the Ps. A few (one 9s out now and also a few (one Ps. They clearly will not be common. Birds prazing out in the Carey pools, where its grain is opened and floating on the surface. They seem to get much of the food they can from the floating mats of grass. 19 June Found a nest with 4 eggs just N of the cern plot in the gressy ridge between two ponds. There were 3-4 other Ps on the plot where they feed in the pools, without seeming to have much success Sauces was greatest when they walked along the edge of the pools. Several (2 or 3) 9s still associated. 20 June Birds heard flying over the polygonal area N of the village but none seen landed except 1 or 2 in the village pads. No pairs seen except in flight. 21 June No 9s on the cern plot today. Found two 4 egg nets, both on Sphagnum dikes between ponds in Carey. The Ps flushed at 3-4 feet coming up off the nest without distraction display but calling Gently, a startling performance. Little feeding seen. but that seen seemed to be more successful than earlier
