Calidris melanotos -7 6 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaskan risk. Few birds seen feeding. Often they seem to be getting into the Camp marshes and the shallowly- flooded polygon troughs, where I can't see what they are doing. 7 June A few peristals seen near village creek and along IK malkvahl lake, feeding in shallow Camp marshes. It's conspicuous and not much P activity. Most numerous in the village plots. 8 June One a two near camp and a few in the village plots. A few resting out in the Camp marshes. This species seems to flushboat more in this region than do other sandpipers, but groups of more than 3-4 seldom seen. Often 2-3's seen during 5. 9 June P's little in evidence and now seen feeding; Some bootleg seen but not a lot and few (1 or 2) P's chases. Is very conspicuous but not in the Camp marshes as much as the P's? kept out by them. P's were often wetter than the P's. Hard to work with because they get in its tall grass where I can't see them. One or two near the camp plot - mostly off. Not clearly stationised low density. A few P's with migratory Red Phalarope Occasionally dropping out of the flocks and landing a while, but going as without much feeding activity.
