Polyticta stellevi
10 July Barrow, Alaska - there was a group of 4Bs in the area
between the two meadow lakes and at least 10 Bs
in a group in Central Marsh. A male & were
loosely associated in Holmes' Marsh but all other
&'s seen were alone. A 5 egg nest on Pitelka's plot
was seen, the nest rather exposed except as the duck
sat on it and lined with black down. The 4
set very straight nest went straight off when she was
approached closely.
11 July 5Bs were seen together on Footpint lake and
3 Bs together in the slough at the N end of Ikroathik.
A few lone Bs were also seen. Only 4 or 5 &s were noted
and a 6 egg nest, possibly down lined, was found along
the NW shore of Ikroathik.
12 July 2 pairs seen flying in from the west along the
lead in the evening.
13 July a group of 13Bs, which dove simultaneously, was
seen in the lead about noon and 3 Bs with a
group of old squaws were present later on. &s seen
over on the sundries.
14 July A group of 3Bs+2&'s in Central Marsh. The nest on
Pitelka's plank with 6 eggs, that between thin. It
with one egg and a 6 egg nest SW of the line on a
ridge, between two polygons was formed today.
17 July & feeding in the creek in NDTM slough.
20 July & near a pool S of S. Headaw Lake; the 1 egg nest near
[illegible]kins II broken up but the egg still in one piece, and so
find in [illegible].
