P. De Benedittis 1965 Calidius alpinus 17June Bayou, Alaska - Some territorial flight display and similar notes given from the ground, and 1 "Nest cup display" and a few chores. Then were at least 3 flocks of 12-15 birds in this area. Between Fanny & South Salt Logos, but also several isolated pairs. None seem tied down to an area and all seem to tolerate intrusion of flocks, although some chasing wake takes place on the ground in the groups. They showed a pronounced tendency to feed in higher slope areas but were also seen feeding in the troughs and along with puddles. 18June Considerable aerial display today and a little, simple ground display, primarily in colony wing ups as it was tailed for June 15 and wing ups after landing. Most birds seem appeared to paired and territorial and only 1 were seen on the Beach ridge. 19June There were markedly fewer birds present in the area visited June 17 but the loss seems to be in birds which were in flocks at earlier dates. Those present were vocal; I saw many aerial flight display and one was out on the ground but with elk. The density of this species is apparently quite low. 20June Aerial display not infrequent today; saw a wing out like that noted for C. bairdii and pusillus, and one attempted copulation; the bird wanted was not receptive and appeared to fight the male
