P. De Benedick's

Calidris pusilla
21 July Barrow, Alaska - a pair found along the gravel road
west of Nest 5 was alarmed by my presence but did
not appear to have ground. Nest 22 still with 4 eggs.
Not seen elsewhere.
22 July a pair with two chicks was found in a trough
direct west of Nest 3 & north of Nest 4. No other seen
behind the lab until the region of Nest 22; when
the pair were present and greatly excited - there were
2 chicks, 1 egg and egg shells in the nest. A ♀ was
very alarmed by my presence near the peregrine's
nest, presumably the pair from nest 13 and nests
12 and 11 have left. There was a dead chick
in 11. Single birds were seen near each nest
and they appeared to be attending young. As before they
flew into the air when approached. They will not
hood up readily as dunniks. Nests 23 had 4 eggs,
but these were cool and no adult was seen in the
area.
In the OOTH area Nests 20 and 25 were empty.
adults that acted like they had young were near
nest 25, 17 and 3 pairs seemed to be involved.
A bird that acted like it had young was near Lt. 10.0
end of 771 B. There also seen 2-4 "non breeding" birds
in the area. No young seen. Heard one shore "motorboat"
from an excited ♂ near nest 25. See pomaunis Range.
23 July The only birds seen were along the gravel road at
AACS. The two nests on the Beach Ridge (21 and 22)
were empty.
