31 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°24'N, Alask.
A flock of 30+ seen flying N along the Meade
well up in the air about 10 AM.
8 June A group of about 10 flying east about 2 AM and
later 3-4♂ seen going in odd directions and one
group of 4♀s. all in flight, the large flock quite noisy
6 June Small groups - 5- and pairs occasionally flying
part most of the day. Some are fairly noisy.
7 June A few small groups (most ♀s) going over
8 June do. A ♂ in the Meade R. S of the ice floes.
9 June 6 in the large pool below the ice jogs and 2
in the small pool this. About 4 seen in flight
plus 1-2 pairs late. A heavy movement of pairs
and one group 4♂3♀ going SE in the evening 5 to 10 PM
Birds noisy (wings) as they went by low over the ground.
10 June large groups opposite the village in the Meade
in the AM. After ice went a few in the water
channels and two in South creek in the evening.
Few ♂s flying over. Noisy - "ooh oon ah" -
and ♀s head flipping in front of the ♂s.
11 June About a dozen in South creek and in some of the
longer lakes which are opening up. ♂s flying about.
Shy noisy and cawing but most already paired.
16 June Widespread but no groups on the small lakes
around Que. ♂s still well associated.
17-18 June do. ♀s well associated & None cordially on
rests yet.
19 June Several loose ♂s seen flying over the canyon plot.
