30 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaska -
A bright plumaged bird came in with 3 golden
plum and feed for a while in exposed sand
Dryas-moschata flats on the dunes S of camp.
It was not present in the area 2 hrs. later.
31 May I feeding with golden plumes along the creek near
the village in the AM.
1 June A flock of 4 dull plumaged (? ) birds
seen over the village and two similar birds
feeding with golden plumes on the very exposed
patches of ground along the creek.
2 June Two pairs seem be becoming established in its
polygonal area near the dunes 1 mi N of camp.
Saw flight songs, which are quite unlike that
of golden plumes in sound though similar in
form, on two occasions and heard several others.
They feed out on the dry, sandy flats more than
the golden plumes do now, but do not seem to
pay much attention to the plumes. One seen
in flight over its "cursors plot" in the evening.
3 June Two seen the village, including one swig,
bird. Seen only in flight. Bird calling along
the Meade R. just S of its "cursors plot."
4 June Seen in flight near the village.
5 June There are several pairs centered around the south
ridge, where much song flight went on from 2:30 to
5 A.M. The song is a mournful "pueerwee" sometime camp
preceded by a Twell. The only ones on the ground were a pair in
