Calidris melanotos -5 10 June Meade River Coal Mine, 152025'W, 70024'N, Alaska. The 3's seem almost more interested than feeding. Very scarce S of camp, possibly only 3-58's in the 1 miles of shore here in area 6+ acres wide. 4s occasional, usually flushed from Carry marshes, whence they go into weedy polygonal areas to feed. 2's hard to see in the tall grass. 11 June 2nd common calidris here but very scarce. Much 3-58's chasing in. As low area south of South Ride with only 3-58's in the 1/2 two miles, flushed about 6-7s from Carry marshes. Mole ringing loudly. Not seen in the polygonal areas inland of here. 12 June A couple of 3's and a 4 near the 1st lake on Village Creek and 1a 2 along Lake Agassiz. Probably 1 3' (??) on the camera plot and 2a 3-58's seen, mostly in the gassy areas along the about E-W row of stakes. A little song. Still can't see the 4's when they are in the tall grass. 16 June Little in evidence during its afternoon, mostly along the SE edge of Lake Agassiz where two-3 3's and a couple 2's flushed from the Carry marshes. In the evening, there was some activity on the camera plot, including 1# shooting male and a 4 giving a mousse near the 1,2 stakes. Bird seen feeding at the edge of Carry pools. 17 June "Common" along the N part the Village flats and on the far side the Meade River opposite the North Dunes. Some hooting.
