P. DeBeedich 1965 17 June Colidin fuscicollis Barrow, Alaska "prairie chicken" display The [illegible] lower mandible appears dull red, always black to me. 18 June Saw an aerial flight display over the low bounds near the Beach Ridge; the bird got up in the air silently, flopping apparently normally and then went into a U glide, calling, "po-oit po-oit po-it", very low pitched & volume, and then the bird landed. The same or another bird was observed feeding consistently near a low dunlin but the two ignored each other except for keeping about 6-8 inches apart. Nothing else out of the ordinary. The bird seen feeding at close range today was on a low polygon and fed in bone/ morsey areas giving something between a jab and peck as a feeding motion most of the time. 19 June At least 6 and possibly 8 birds in the 50th Bitter's Area, most feeding silently. Saw the end of one aerial display and heard another. One chase, involving two birds, began with a rapid flight, one bird (probably the chasing) calling a long "222 222222222" as it flew; then it went into a short V-glide calling "222-zit"
