P. De Benedick's
1965
Pluvialis dominica
10 June Barrow, Alaska - a single bird was seen in the
Ciel But area, nict, in a exposed, gory area.
11 June Saw 2 birds, one giving the butterfly display flight
at the southeast eul Family lagoon about 430, and
1 near Meadow lakes about 830 PM.
12 June Saw 4 birds, 2 near the VOTH area and 2
about ½ along the W side of Family lagoon. No
display but some vocalization; they feed in the
open gory flats along a puddle, and very
infrequently as all plover do; they were all
judged to be OB's on the basis of black on its face.
14 June Scattered 3's were seen along the Elson lagoon
area, and although heard the flight call
given in migration, saw no fights or display.
15 June 2 birds, 3's, together on shore of Elson lagoon very noisy,
no display, in the AM.
16 June One seen flying by its Beach ridge in the AM. At least
4 birds, including a 9 plumaged bird, along the
W side of Wollschlag Slough. The birds were
fairly quiet, except in two periods when one
male chased a second calling "too lée lée ...
too lée lée ... too lée lée", a clear whistle but no
display flight.
17 June Saw a bird with much white on the face with a
Black head (ricel) along the W side of Family lagoon.
The birds are quite vocal; calls heard are a
"furlee", the commonest song given in two pitches by
birds on and off the ground, a "chilup" occasionally.
