P. DeBenedictis 1964 Calidris melanotos 22 July Barrow, Alaska - and did not form as tight a flock as on 17 July. They still are clearly proven countin the remarks of that date. At least 1 and possibly 20's present. 23 July I with a flock of Golden Plover near the Beach Ridge. 24 July 2 males heard ("chermel") near the Gaswell Road at the O end of hives III were the only found today. 25 July generally sparse, compared to the area by the lab, commonly distributed south to T. Krovil. Many 7's and a few 8's seen, the largest group of 2 birds. The only flock was just west of foot print lake - about 15, mostly females. Two 7's when flushed flew about nervously giving a sharp, rather long and evenly spaced, "kat" note quite unlike anything I have heard from them before but reminiscent of the rail-like note not heard from dunlins today. 26 July Heard near line TUB:
