P. D. Benedict 1965 Calidris pusilla 2 July Barrow, Alaska, - going into a stery distraction display when I approach, while others jump off when I am 40-80 feet away and make no noise until they are well away from the nest. While birds are distributed they occ. fly over the nest as if to check the contents without giving it away. 4 July There was considerable activity of this species in the VOTH area, involving at least 3 and probably 4 Bards and 2 or 3 Turs. At one time 3 Turs were seen V-gliding together, and lone males were frequently seen V-gliding, either silently or giving a trill "tététété..." softer than the song, which was seen & heard 4 Turs in 5 minutes. 3 semipales feeding near a Baird's show some interspecific actions, involving 1 chase of the Semi's by the Baird's and 2-3 chases of the Baird's by the Semi's, the latter less successful as the Baird's finally left. On one occasion as the two approached the Bairds went into a partial double wing-up and the semipal went into a hunched posture and closed its Baird's away. I checked nests 4, 14, and 16, finding no change and only one bird at each. When I checked 14 the (? ) got off and went into a distraction display; I then checked Baird Nest 5, the 9 of which also went into a distraction display towards the Semipal. When the two came together the Semipal went into a partial double wing-up display
