Calidris melanostrus
July Barrow, Alaska. They do not appear to have changed in status in Central Marsh from July 6, except that the flock size is larger, much as was noted yesterday.
July A few small groups noted on Footprint Lake and a small group on the slough at the NW end of Ithrauit. Elsewhere this appeared to be the most abundant Calidris and scolfield birds were constantly being flushed from wet areas. A & shooting He Chen appear to be recently laying, and a very saggy-breasted was seen for the first time in a while, walking in a very erect posture before a &, but no display was heard and no nest could be found. They are much less common or more than close to the lab but en to be are probably more numerous there than closer in.
July The nest in Miconut still with 4 eggs. A flock of &s and (u)Bs in the Marsh.
July A flock, loosely organizing of 25-30 O8TH slough feeding along the stream. They got up in groups of 3-10 when approached. No &s seen in this area. A few other &s seen in the O8TH area. Very scarce in Central Marsh and not seen near time V+II in Holmes' Meadow.
July The nest in Miconut still OK. Only one bird heard the entire day!
July A group of about 7 and 3-4 lone (all &s?) birds on the east side of Holmes' Meadow.
