Pluvialis dominica
2 July Barrow Alaska. The nest by line 3B was being incubated
by the 4 and when she got up and began to scold a
2nd bird also appeared and scolded me. One other
pair heard but no flocks seen.
9 July no groups around VOTH though but 4-6 birds were
along the road from the Voth area to Footprint; one
of these birds was very mottled ventrally, and they were
not very vocal.
10 July a flock of about 12 seen near the OSC + GS shack
N of the Beaula Ridge and 1 or 2 similar sized group
were along the E. side of Central Marsh. The birds were
very quiet.
11 July No groups which gave the impression of being paired
and territorial were seen in the 1/Kroakia region but
3-4 flocks of 8-6 birds were seen, all in flight. One group
was with dowitchers.
13 July The nest along line 3B was empty and no bird
were seen in the area. A flock of 17+ were seen in
the VOTH area in the evening of July 12; they were
silent, but their wings are noisy when they fly,
14 July an obviously nesting pair on Gasline Ridge 80 feet
on a 2; nest with 4 eggs found by Hamilton
15 July A group of about 8 on the polygonized area where the
weasel road crosses the Beaula ridge, N of the ridge.
16 July The nest along Elson bayorn still OK and attended by a
single bird. One heard near the Cull shack.
20 July A pair just west of the S end of line 3 on bluff
below gasline ridge acted suspiciously and McLean pond
