Calidris
17 July Barrow, Alaska - about 25 pound in V0TH slough. They
feed out in the stagnant sediments of the streams
when the red grass has grown to provide good cover.
They are much shyer than earlier in the year and
flushed at fairly close approach. I suspect they
are not feeding by subsurface type motion to the
extent calidris in this year (but saw very few actual
feeding type motions). A few were also seen near hine
FIA along the port there and were similarly shy,
19 July The nest in Nicomet Marsh OK but the only
probable bird seen were flying well up in theirs,
circling over this area.
20 July I flew over the hines I-II and landed in the polygonal
area west of the Casline Ridge.
21 July a group of 6 seen just N of Pitelka's census
plot included 1 F.
22 July The nest behind AACS hauled at least one yamptus
just leaving when I checked it about 10 AM. got
photos. The 4 was very alarmed when I approached
(more so than ever where there were eggs) and went
into prolonged distraction displays; she came to
18 feet of me on several occasions. The young were not
inclined to seen about today at all. See from Jaeger.
A small group still in V0th slough feeding on the
flat along the stream and in the stream, especially
in openings in the tall grass (4 to 6") where they
were hard to see. They were shy, not as bad as on
17 July but went into alert postures when approached.
