hobipes lobatus
27 June Meadele River Coal Mine, 157°02'5"W, 70°29'1"N, Alabama
3-4 Ts and 1-2 Ts in the large lakes in the flat
opposite camp. The birds only loosely associated
and no fights seen. A group of 3-4 Ts flew over.
29 June Small groups of pleasure, mostly this species
flying over the census plot and camp during
day. All seemed to be Ts. The birds are
very noisy, giving a high pitched "plick"
call like the note given in migration.
29 June Small groupings still present on lake Agassiz.
4 July Several small groups out in lake Agassiz and at
least 1 lone T. The group appear to be all Ts. The
calls now typical of birds in migration.
5 July A small group of Ts with 1-2 Reds in the larger
shallower lakes opposite north dunes. The birds are
very active, seldom landing, but don't seem to
be moving through.
8 July 1 or two in the west Carry area along lake Agassiz.
All appeared to be Ts.
11 July One Pacted which had chicks in a Carry
pool with 1-2" of water. It seemed to be most
interested in an area along a spongous depth.
13 July About half a dozen birds got up from lake
and flew along with a Peregrine Friege that
went over. Most appeared to be Ts.
