P. De Buedili 1965 Calidris pusilla 19 June Bayou, Alaska - went to two rapid wing ups, raising only one wing, and alternating wings near the large bird on the paddle. The posture was similar to the "wing out" except that the wing was held higher up. and the motion of the wing was more discreet. the wing was held up less than 1 second. Apt glimpses on one interaction that may have been either a nest cup or a copulation but the birds were hidden in the grass, and no cup could be found. 20 June Saw considerable ground display, involving a tail up with the wings dropped and a wing up as seen yesterday, possibly these being incomplete versions of the single display. It is much more ritualized than I thought and can be given by a still bird although usually seen in chases. Saw one or two wing outs, and heard and saw many flight songs. 21 June Birds were moderately vocal, primarily flight display and ground "trilling". Saw 4-5 ground displays, 1 wing up and 3 "tail ups", in which the stance is and the tail call is given, close to a 2nd bird; didn't see any attempts at copulation. and no sign of nests.
