P. DeBenedictis 1965 Arneria interepes 9 June Barrow, Alaska - in a gravel pit by the animal shelter I saw first 8 and latter 11 individuals of this species, showing a bright red cell pattern. The bright birds were quite aggressive although they remained together in flock; while watching two additional birds came in, landed with the group + then flew off into the tundra. 10 June 8 birds only were in the gravel pit area. They are quite aggressive but remain to gether; the dis plays involve a hunched posture with much body feather exciton + a slightly bowed tail and a decked, upright alarm posture. In the evening at least 3 birds were seen in exposed patches of tundra, near the CRELL feet. 11 June Now only 3 birds in the Animal shed area; only 2 out on the Tundra near Family Lagoon. 12 June Saw 3 along the NE side of Family Lagoon in a group and 1 along the shore line near the channel to the lagoon. No display. 13 June a few of the birds seen along Family Lagoon appear to be initiating display + territorial behavior. 14 June a few, scattered birds along the shore of Elson Lagoon. 17 June about 4-8 pairs between the South Salt + Family Lagoon. The turns objects with the bill as in the wirles, resulting in a strange feeling notion. Saxon on a mound top flipping over for paper and 4 or 5 twins birds feeding in flooded troughs where they really throw thrum around. In flight one of two birds in perchase gives a [illegible].
