31 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaska
a group of 7's flew up the creek by the village
about 11 AM. A lone male seen SE of camp
in the early afternoon.
1 June One 3 seen in flight near camp
2 June One 3 seen flying along the river near the
village in the A.M. 2 pairs were near the coal
Mine in the evening, these being the first 3's I have
seen, and a 3 flanked from the closest part of
my census plot 2 x during the evening.
3 June At least 2 pairs and a male hanging about
a pool becoming exposed N of the village below
the river. Several chases seen and the 3's are
quite noisy.
4 June At least 3 (38%) in the flats N of the village in the A.M.
5 June About 3? and 2+ 3's in the village flats, quite noisy.
Placed pintail house in the lake basin S of the South
Ridge and a 3 became established in a pond behind
camp today.
6 June Still going (like) wild behind camp. Not many seen
flying around.
7 June A few pintail feeding in shallow pools by Ikmakvah
lake. Still around camp. more 3's than 4's.
8 June Not so conspicuous near camp. 38% near the South creek,
and sea birds on the opening in the Meade R.
Now fewer 3's in the pools in Village flats and
morning into the area inland as it opens up.
