One bird approached with calling a dog-like, loud "Kyow" 9 June Two in the Meade river pools between ice fames. One flying in cleaked into a Pannigan Two over, one in the meade R. S of the ice dam. see G. arctica. 10 June More #s than arctica on the waters and flying ove. All loons definitely identified to species "clacking" have been this species. After the river went out, I built in breeding plumage found in South creek where ice free. 11 June Seen flying ove, many flying over. Calls on water "Kyow" and "Keeypower", the latter very wolf-like. When surprised birds on the water, they submerged with a sharp "Kyp" like a scared dog. Still only this species seem to cackle. 12 June One flying over in the evening and calling from ?, South creek. begins with a "Kyoww" then goes to a strong cooing call, "Kouououououou". Prob. some of the other loons were this pair. 16-17 June Siding from the far side of the Meade. Occasionally seen flying over. 18-19 June Occasionally flying ove or calling from the lakes. 23 June One or two pairs on lake Agassiz, cackling in flight as they go ove. and the two's closely associated.
