Turdus migratorius
Aug. 9-19 Beg Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. only a few
were seen - in the open pasture and border
of Spruce-alder & alder-maple forests
or the Riparian woodland. 3 were also seen,
on Aug. 16 at the grassy ground at the ranch at
S. end of road on 1st ridge E. of Lagoon, 538'.
Aug. 20-26 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - Several
(2 or 3) were about our camp almost daily. The
spring nearby, with the only water for several
miles along the series of "balls" on this ridge,
is probably the attraction. The species was
seen nowhere else in these "ball" hills.
Aug. 25 Coyote Peak, 2800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Several,
apparently a family of young + 1 or 2 ads.,
were foraging under the maples & madrones
& Tan Oaks near the large spring on the
W. side of the peak. I collected a F & Mullein
got an immature.
Aug. 28,
30, 31 1/2 mi. N Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
a few were seen in the orchard & adjacent
Blackberry & Coffeeberry bushes & Bay trees
in the Trinity River valley here [see Journal].

calling in open pine forest [see Journal for description]
Sep. 7, 8 (2 1/2 mi. NNW) Red Mtn., 5300 ft., 14 mi. S Hayfork,
Trinity Co., Calif. 1 or 2, respectively, heard & seen
on these dates in open pine forest - the only ones

1 mile N of here on 8th.
