Cogswell 1949 Oporornis tolimeci -1 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Aug 10-19 Frequently met with, one at a time, in thickets of Ribes sp. or Oteris aquifolia near alder & willow clumps, in the lower parts of these trees themselves, and one individual in a spruce tree. all seen were in maple creek valley or in the shrub edge of the forest along E. shore of the lagoon. No songs heard. Aug 20 - French Camp, 3300 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. This 9:15 a.m. species seems to be common in all brush areas, which near camp are mostly tan oak & golden chinquapin. One was collected from the border of such brush near the top of French Camp Ridge 1/4 mi. SW of the camp. The taller shrubs are patchy on the NW- facing slope here, with the interstices mostly filled with Salal & bracken fern. The opposite side of the ridge is dry & grassy only. Many tall dead trees from an old fire are here. Photo taken of area. Aug 22 - 1 mi. WNW Schoolhouse Peak, 2300 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 9:45 a.m. I collected one from lower branches of young larvy oak amid scattered thicket of Rhus diversifolia and Ribes sp. which occupies a slight knoll here on the SW- facing slope, in the oak covered lower portion of the large "prairie" which continues along the Bald Hills. Aug 24-25 - Coyote Creek vicinity, 2600-3800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Several seen in shrub border of Douglas fir forest.
