Myiarchus cinerascens
Aug. 29
1 mi. N Willow Creek, 450 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
as I stood on a tongue of the dry "plateau"
(old river terrace see Journal p. 97) covered
by dry shrubland bordering the alder-
filled ravines, a large flycatcher
flew into the top of a tree at the head
of one of the ravines. It showed
much reddish brown in its tail and
wings as it flew over me just before
alighting about 60 ft. away. It
was not visible to me when it
perched in the tree, or when I moved
it flew on across the ravine. After
making my way there I could
find no trace of it. There is no
doubt in my mind, but that the bird
seen was of this species.
