Cogswell 1949 Erolia minutilla Aug. 13, Aug. 16, 17 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. from 3 to 20: were seen on each visit to the marsh at the SE. end of the lagoon. They foraged on the bits of bare mud among the stands of Carex as well as across the flats with Juncus left on top of the mud by receding water levels. “Deep”, presumably mostly this species, were also seen or heard frequently in the evening from our camp ½ mile inland from the lagoon. Some of these flocks flying SE-ward up People Creek valley were composed of up to 100 birds. Aug. 20 Trinity River at Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. I saw one at close range with 9x binoculars to note the dark breast & pale greenish legs. I had been searching the stream & banks for the wood- elk arm. Merganser when my scanning came upon the sandpipers. I quickly reloaded & shot at it, but it escaped the shot which fell all around it, then flew off to the southward.
