Coquell 1949 Empidonax difficilis Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Aug. 15 I shot an immature from an alder thicket near our camp along Maple Creek, just after it had been fed by an adult. I thought it was possibly E. traillii', but the specimen proved otherwise. It was too badly shot up in the head to be prepared, however. Aug. 24 Coyote Peak, 2900 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - I collected one (#62) from forest border area (See Journal, p. 83). It is an immature, with 5th & 10th primaries nearly the same length and broad bill; so despite its whitish throat I assume it is this species. The only call I heard it give was the non-specific Empidonax type of "whit". Aug. 28} {"31} {2/3 mi. N Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. noted in the mixed woodland & orchard area of the Trinity River valley (see Journal for description) - I saw closely a yellow underparts noted on 28th; I heard calling "fee-feet" on 31st. Many others of the numerous Empidonacces present may have been of this species.
