3 mi. N Willow Creek, 700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
Aug. 31 (cont) at camp earlier in the a.m. I collected a
Sickleated warbler. also hunted a bit near camp
in the p.m., but found hardly anything.
Dr. Pearson left for Berkeley this a.m., so
Murray & I were the only ones trying for
bats tonight. I shot & obtained 2 from
over the road by camp. one is apparently
mystis (lucifugus?) & the other mystes californi-
cus. (see species)
Sep. 1 at 10:00 a.m. Yullion -> I drove up the
"Three Creeks Road," which leaves the highway
just N. of Brigard's Grocery in Willow Creek and
leads toward the S. end of the mountain ridge
(to the W. of Trinity River valley) which cul-
minates in Brennan Mtn., 3957 ft.
Where it leaves the highway this road rises thru
douglas fir forest onto a wider terrace older than
the one on which the highway is located at this
point. The field and woodland areas where we
hunted during the past 3 days and & nearby
Digger Cricks, yellow cricks, and Golden cup oaks
are located on the lower terraces near the highway.
The dry shrubland described on p. 97 is on the
remnants of a terrace of intermediate height.
The highest terrace, over which this road
runs, is about 200 ft. above the highway
& is partly planted to orchards & gardens,
but a fringe of Barry & Black oaks and madron
