Coggswell 1949 Aphelecoma coeruleus French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Aug. 21 I collected an immature (= # 47) from border of burned Douglas fir forest at top of French Camp Ridge and adjacent to the "bald" which lies just SW. of camp. It was in a dead tree, with Tanoak oak and Chingquin + a little Quercus garryana in the immediate vicinity. 2 others were heard in this vicinity. Aug. 22 - 23 1 mi. WNW Schoolhouse Peak, 2300 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. At least 5 were seen here, all or most of them immatures in Garry oak woodland on SW. facing slope below a "prairie". Aug. 24 - 25 Coyote Peak vicinity, 2500-2800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. I heard from Garry oak woodland each date. Aug. 30 - 31 1/2 mi. N Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 2 heard, seen in mixed woodland orchard, a brushy thicket off along small tributaries of Trinity River, in the valley just W. of the river. Sep. 3 2 1/2 mi. N Willow Creek, 500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. I collected one along the beginning of the Horse Feet Road here in shrubland area on valley floor just outside the madrone-oak forest (see p 93). The shrubs here are tall manjita (a. manguita) + young oaks + madrones, with Gooseberry, Poison Oak, Blackberry, + Boucher mixed in a peach orchard and a corn field are new.
