Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif.
Aug. 14 - Caught the following in 52 traps set along the
same line as the previous night (in Redwoods):
1- Sorex pacificus
1- Sorex townbridgi
1- Zapus trivoltatus { see species accounts.
Walked from the trap area, which is about a mile
from camp, down the road to Hammond Lumber
Co. shops, noting the following species in the
Redwood - Spruce - Hemlock timber which forms
the lowest forest on the lowest slopes:
Columba fasciata - 2
Barus rufescens - several
Regulus satrapa - "
centris familiaris - 1 heard
Wilson's pusilla - 4
Troglodytes troglodytes - 1 heard
From the Lumber Co. shops to our camp I detoured along
the edge of the Scirpus marsh at the end of the lagoon,
noting the following species in the field - marsh border:
cathartes aura - 4
charadrius vociferous-2
actitis macularis -1
chetura vauxi - many
* Selasphorus sp. - 1?
(fledling about blossoming
heads of Scirpus !!)
megecyrile aleyon - 1
* Trochilios thalassus - 3 in.
Archipino bicolor - many, ads. 1 in.
zimundo rustica - many
Stelgidopteryx ruficollis - 8+, (1+ ad, several im)
progne subis - 1 pr.
Telmatodytes palustris - several
* Hethlypcs Dickas - 1 pr.
Passerulus sandwichensis - 5
melospiza melodia - many
