Cogswell 1949 Molothrus ater Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Aug. 9 - about 2:15 p.m. In willow-elder-berry thickets across the creek from last night's camp I found a well-grown, streaked breast-ed juvenile cowbird being fed by a ? Wilsonia pusilla. Took 1 shot at them in a willow, but apparently missed. The young cowbird was about 2-3 x the size of its host. Aug. 11 - about 6:30 a.m. I found what was apparently the same bird still being fed by a Wilsonia pusilla. The cowbird was on a log jumping over the stream, calling vigorously. I collected it. [=#16].
