Coggswell 1949 Phalacrocorax auritus Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Aug. 16 One in glossy black plumage with bright yellow gular pouch seen near east shore of north end of lagoon about 2/3 the length of the lagoon N. of the highway bridge. It surfaced from a dive and flew away while I watched from the road above. at least 7 cormorants of a size such as to be either this species or B. penicillatus have been noted during the last week on the main lagoon. Aug. 13,17 5 to 7 large cormorants on the lagoon or perching on rocks along E. shore or on sandy beach.
