Cogswell 1949 Wilsonia pusilla aug. 8-19 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif.- abundant in the spruce-alder forest (borders - clearings at least), willow-alder woodland, and Rubus thickets along Maple Creek valley. Many were noted feeding young out of the nest. One also was feeding the young Corobird (which see). The species was also fairly common in soft leaf shrubs under Redwood forest, spruce-lowland fir forest, and in the taller "chaparral" on the W. slope of the first ridges & of the lagoon. Songs were heard occasionally even up to the end of this period. aug. 20-26 Ranch Lamp, 3100 ft., and Coyote Creek - Schoolhouse Peak area, 2300 - 3200 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Common in shrub-filled ravines under Douglas fir forest, less common in the Tan oak-chinquapin shrub forest of the burned-over area, and a few seen in Poison oak & gooseberry thickets under and in Harvey oaks. No songs were heard during this period. aug. 31 3 mi. N Willow Creek, 700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 8:00 am I collected one from canopy of maple-alder forest over a wet, shrub-filled ravine on the N. facing slope of Loon Creek canyon. There was another calling nearby. 2 to 3 have been heard in this area for the past 4 days; no songs, however.
