Cogswell 1949 Bufo boreas Aug 9 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co. Calif a specimen picked near the road (logging) near our camp last night was prepared today. It was in grass near the edge of a log filled pond at about 9:00 p.m. last night. Others were seen in damp fields & along the stream bed (gravel to sand bars) by camp today. Aug 10-19 - common in this same habitat everywhere in the valley. Tadpoles were found abundantly in the slightly algal lined pools in the portion of Maple Creek where gravel digging had been done in the bed (1 1/2 mi. inland from lagoon). Sep 3 Brannan Pkts, 3700 ft., Humboldt Co. Calif - I collected 2 along the dusty road just W. of the main peak after dark in the evening. one was hopping into dry leaf litter under shrubs of open pine forest and the other was attempting to scale a 4 ft. road cut bank. The nearest water known to me is approxi mately 1 mile away.
