Cogswell 1949 Sorex pacificus Aug. 12. Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Caught 1 (not saved) in trap set under ferns behind end of log lying along border of alder & elderberry thicket under a taller alder trees. The other side of the log fronts on a 20 ft. wide grassy strip (old logging road). Aug. 13. One caught in trap set on leaf litter under a 1 ft. diameter log amid: Polystichum munitum, aspidium sp., Lomaria parvifolium, Squiant, Gaultheria shallon, & Vaccinium parvifolium, about 25 yards up a NW facing slope from a small stream, about 70% canopy of Redwood overhead. Specimen prepared by Dr. Pearson (his # 1663). Aug. 14. Caught 1 in trap set under twig & root debris 5 yards from stream, near ferns & salmon-berry under less than 30% Redwood canopy open (due to road nearby). [not saved] Aug. 15 One caught in trap set on mossy but dry ground under thicket of Rubus spectabilis with litter of twigs & low herbs all about. The site was near an old stream bed (of Pitcher Creek). No tree canopy overhead, but the shrub canopy is nearly solid. Another caught about 20 yards away in trap set on leaf litter under a mint plant at the base of a spruce tree (Picea sitchensis). Polystichum munitum, Pambucus racemosa, & Echinocystis common in the forest understory nearby. [Specimens not saved] Aug. 17 3 caught in trap line (45 traps) set in Redwood-
