Dendroica migranea
Aug.29 (1 mi. N) Willow Creek, 400 ft. Humboldt Co., Calif.
One was collected from alders near the same spot as the 2 D. aestiva (which see). It gave its typical full call note, a liquid "telp" frequently as it foraged. It is in nearly full J plumage, with the black of its throat but slightly clouded by gray. [no definite groups found]
Aug.31 An adult J (throat was pure black) seen briefly in black oak + willow trees at the border of the same woodland area.
Sep.2 3 mi. N Willow Creek, 700 ft. Humboldt Co., Calif.
1 J (full black throat) seen in maple + alder trees by our camp along Loon Creek. Another was seen near the town of Willow Creek in the after-
oon.
Sep.7 (2 1/2 mi. NW) Red Mtn, 5300 ft. 14 mi. S Hayford, Trinity Co., Calif.
I shot an immature J [illegible] the top of a tall Incense Cedar at our camp, but it lodged in branches half-way down so I had to shoot branches around it loose with a heavier load. The specimen was badly damaged thereby and not saved. It had a very soft skull and black borders should on its throat area. Several "telp" call notes have been heard in various situations along the ridge here for 2 days, indicating presence of this species or Townsend's or occidentals faintly commonly.
Sep.6-10 "Telp" call notes from warblers were heard 2 or 3 times daily in this area. Several were identified as this species in its open pine forest + oak shrubland border.
